Move every day.
Any way you like.
Free activity tracking. And one Winter: 90 days in a row, moving every single day.
Movement used to come with the day. Work, commutes and screens took it out. Then it was sold back to us as memberships, programs and gear. A walk is still free. It just has to happen.
Gym. Run. Walk. Stretch.
It all counts.
Hold to start on iPhone, or bring workouts in from Apple Watch through Apple Health. Missing data shows as missing, never as zero.
One Winter. 90 days. No missed days.
- Day 1 starts at the next local midnight. Your timezone is locked for all 90 days.
- Day 2. Any genuine workout counts. A walk, a stretch, a session at the gym.
- Day 7. The first milestone.
- Day 12. Every day needs a confirmed workout. If one is still syncing, it shows as awaiting, not missed.
- Day 30. A month without a missed day.
- Day 40. Hard days and easy days both count. Skipping doesn't.
- Day 60. The third milestone.
- Day 70. Twenty days left. Same attempt, same rules.
- Day 90. You made it through. The record stays yours.
The rules fit on
one screen.
-
Any movement counts
Any genuine recorded workout with active time. No minimum for distance, pace or heart rate.
-
Manual entries don't
They stay in your history, but they aren't evidence for a Winter day.
-
48 hours to sync
A sync window after each day closes. Not extra time to move. Waiting isn't missing.
-
Miss a day, it ends
Your completed days stay in your record. Another attempt needs a new pass.
-
One payment
No subscription, no renewal. The App Store shows the price before you pay.
-
Kept honest
Only the server confirms a day. Nothing is guessed, nothing is invented.
Rest from intensity.
Not from movement.
A Winter doesn't mean the gym seven days a week. Hard days and easy days both count. Skipping doesn't.
Example week. Bar height is active time.
Free.
No account needed.
Record workouts, keep your streak, see your history. This part costs nothing.
-
Record anything
Hold to start. Walks, runs, gym sessions, yoga, swims.
-
Apple Health
Bring in workouts from Apple Watch and other apps.
-
History and totals
Week, month, year and all time, from your own data.
-
Stays on your iPhone
Routes and heart-rate samples never leave the device.
The bar is frequency,
not intensity.
- Any length
of activity counts. The WHO dropped its 10-minute minimum in 2020.
- 7,000 steps
a day, compared with 2,000, was linked with a 47% lower risk of death from any cause (Ding et al., 2025).
- 66 days
was the median time for a new daily habit to feel automatic (Lally et al., 2010).
Sources and caveats are in the FAQ.
Not the fittest.
The one who didn't miss.
Moving once is easy. Moving every day, through busy weeks, bad weather and low energy, is the hard part. A Winterlamb does it anyway, and has an honest record to show for it.
One study found that a single missed day didn't ruin a habit. We keep the rule strict anyway, because a rule with exceptions gets negotiated every day.
Questions.
What is Winterlamb?
Winterlamb is a free iPhone app made by Cubeshell LLC. It records your workouts and keeps an honest record of the days you moved. Tracking is free and needs no account. The optional Winter Pass is a one-time App Store purchase for one Winter: 90 days in a row, with a genuine recorded workout every day.
Does a walk really count?
Yes. Any genuine recorded workout with positive active time counts, whether it's a walk, a stretch, a gym session or a run. There is no minimum for distance, pace, heart rate or calories.
Is Winterlamb a fitness or training app?
No. It doesn't give you a plan or tell you how hard to train, and it isn't a mental health app. It keeps an honest record of whether you moved, and the Winter asks you to do it every day.
What happens if I miss a day?
Your Winter ends once that day's 48-hour sync window closes without a confirmed workout. Every day you completed stays in your record. Free tracking carries on, and you can start another Winter with a new pass.
What is the 48-hour window?
Workouts sometimes take a while to sync from Apple Health. After a day closes, its workout has 48 hours to reach us. It is a sync window, not extra time to move. Until then the day shows as awaiting, not missed.
Is it a subscription?
No. The Winter Pass is a one-time App Store purchase for one 90-day attempt, with no renewal. The App Store shows the price before you pay. Tracking is free and needs no account.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. You can record on your iPhone. If you have an Apple Watch or use other fitness apps, Winterlamb can read those workouts from Apple Health.
What data leaves my iPhone?
Free tracking uploads nothing. During a Winter, only what's needed to confirm each day is sent. Routes and raw heart-rate samples always stay on your iPhone.
Is moving every day backed by science?
Partly, and we'll be precise about it.
Any amount counts: the WHO's 2020 guidelines dropped the old 10-minute minimum, and any length of activity now counts (WHO Guidelines on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour, 2020).
Ordinary movement matters: compared with 2,000 steps a day, about 7,000 was linked with a 47% lower risk of death from any cause. These are associations, not proof (Ding et al., The Lancet Public Health, 2025).
Habits take time: in the best-known study, a new daily habit took a median of 66 days to feel automatic, with a range of 18 to 254 days (Lally et al., European Journal of Social Psychology, 2010).
What the science doesn't say: that one missed day ruins a habit. The same study found it didn't. The no-miss rule is a commitment we choose, and commitments help: in one workplace study, people who were offered a commitment contract kept going to the gym more, long after the incentive ended (Royer, Stehr and Sydnor, AEJ: Applied, 2015).
